UDM Alumni Print Directory
The UDM Alumni Association print directory project is complete. The directory shipped November 16.
About this project
Every five years the University of Detroit Mercy Alumni Association prints an alumni directory. And, the project has begun! Over the next couple of months Publishing Concepts, Inc. (PCI) will be contacting UDM alumni via mail, email, and phone to request that you update your information.
We understand that you might not want to provide your information to just anyone, so we want you to know that their request for your information is legitimate.
Below is a list of frequently asked questions about the directory and the data research process:
Where can I call to make an update?
UDM Alumni Association members may call Publishing Concepts toll-free at 1-800-395-4724.
Is this a legitimate project?
Yes. The UDM Alumni Association has contracted with PCI: The Data Company (also known as Publishing Concepts) out of Dallas, Texas, to collect alumni information and to produce the 2012 UDM Alumni print directory. The postcard/email/phone call you will receive was sent on our behalf.
Why is the UDM Alumni Association using an outside contractor to complete this project?
With a small Alumni Relations staff, UDM needs to use a professional company to ensure the directory is complete and accurate.
What will the email and postcard look like?
The email you receive will be sent from Eileen Pawlowski ’06, assistant director of alumni relations and annual giving. It will feature the UDM logo, an electronic signature, and a phone number for you to call to update your information.
If you receive any other suspicious email messages requesting that you reply via email to verify alumni information, these are likely scams. The only channel the UDM Alumni Association is collecting updates for the 2012 print directory is through the toll-free number; the legitimate message will NOT ask you to reply by email. If you have any questions about the legitimacy of the email message you receive, please feel free to contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 313-993-1540 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why do I need to update my information?
- Information changes quickly – mailing addresses, email addresses, children, etc.
- This is a great way to help UDM ensure that your information is 100% up-to-date.
- The 2012 UDM Alumni Directory will be a permanent record of University of Detroit Mercy indicating who attended UDM and where alumni are in world as of 2012.
- It will help you and your friends stay-connected.
Who will be included in the directory?
The 2012 University of Detroit Mercy Alumni Directory will include all U of D, Mercy College and UDM alumni along with all alumni non-grads. All graduates through December 2011 will be included.
How long do I have to make changes and still have them appear in the directory?
Alumni will have until about April 2012 to make changes/updates.
Can I choose for some or all of my information to not be printed in the directory?
Absolutely. You may tell the caller what information you prefer to have excluded when you call to update/verify your information. You may also communicate this information to the PCI customer service desk or the UDM Office of Alumni Relations.
What if there is an error in my UDM degree information?
University degree information comes directly from official UDM records. If you notice an error, please contact the UDM Office of Alumni Relations directly at 313-993-1540. PCI operators are not authorized to make changes to degree information.
When can I order a 2012 UDM Alumni Directory and when will I receive it?
You can order your directory as early as November 2011. Only the number of directories that have been requested by alumni will be printed to be cost efficient and environmentally friendly. The directory will be complete and ready for distribution in October of 2012.
Is there an electronic version of the Alumni Directory?
Yes, alumni may purchase a CD-ROM of the complete 2012 UDM Alumni Directory. We will also offer an alumni by decade CD-ROM at a discounted rate.
Companion Airline Voucher
If you ordered a package containing the Companion Airline Voucher, you will receive a postcard within 2-3 weeks with direction to go to the PCI website to initiate the voucher process by entering your name and user ID (shown on postcard). Alternatively, you can also call the PCI client services team toll free.
The voucher is good for up to one year, good for domestic travel within the contiguous 48 states, good on 19 different airlines, but blackout dates do apply.
Who is PCI: the data company?
PCI, also known as Publishing Concepts is a Dallas, Texas-based company that creates and publishes alumni directories for educational institutions.
PCI has been in business for more than 85 years and was the nation’s first publisher of alumni directories. PCI partners with 17 of the top 25 universities as rated by US News & World Report, including Princeton, Harvard, and Georgetown.\
What safeguards does UDM have in place to ensure that the information in the directory is not misused by PCI or by an individual?
UDM makes every effort contractually and through copyright laws to ensure the safety and confidentiality of information contained in the directory.
PCI is a trusted partner of the UDM Alumni Association. PCI has agreed to a written confidentiality clause in our contract which limits the use of the information contained in the directory to functions directly related to the preparation and promotion of the 2012 UDM Alumni Directory.
The directory will only be made available to alumni of University of Detroit Mercy.
